Penstock manufacturers
Penstocks are large, flat-gate isolation valves used to control the flow of water in open channels, intake structures, reservoirs, treatment plants, and drainage systems. The gate moves vertically to open or close the flow passage, and sealing is achieved against one or more seating surfaces along the frame. Because they operate in open flow systems rather than pressurized pipelines, penstocks are designed primarily for head pressure rather than line pressure.
They are typically constructed from stainless steel, carbon steel, or aluminum, with resilient or metal seating depending on leakage requirements and environmental conditions. Penstocks may be operated manually by handwheel or spindle, or automated using electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuators when remote operation or frequent cycling is required.
Penstocks are used in water and wastewater treatment plants, flood control structures, hydropower intakes, irrigation channels, and industrial water handling systems. Selection considers head height, opening size, frame mounting type (wall, channel, or embedded), sealing direction (uni-directional or bi-directional), and required corrosion resistance for long-term outdoor or submerged service.
