Knife gate valve manufacturers
Knife gate valves use a sliding flat gate to cut through and isolate fluids containing solids, fibers, or slurry. The gate moves perpendicular to the flow and seats against the body to provide shut-off. The open flow path is typically full-bore to minimize clogging and allow solids to pass. These valves are intended mainly for fully open or fully closed operation, as throttling can cause excessive wear on the gate and seat surfaces.
Knife gate valves are commonly built from stainless steel or ductile iron with hardened or coated gates to resist abrasion. Variations include uni-directional and bi-directional sealing designs depending on pressure conditions and the direction of shut-off. Actuation can be manual, pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic depending on required cycling frequency and line pressure.
Knife gate valves are used in pulp and paper stock handling, mining and mineral processing, wastewater systems, ash and slurry pipelines, and bulk solids transport systems. Proper selection considers solids concentration, particle size, seat configuration, discharge to atmosphere or enclosed service, and the required actuator force to ensure reliable closure in abrasive or high-solids environments.
